| Name of firm storing nuclear waste off WA coast still unknown |
The Radiological Council of Western Australia has not yet released the name of a company storing nuclear waste off the north-west coast of WA, despite a promise to State Parliament to do so.
Greens' MLC Giz Watson says it has been months since the State Government was forced to admit that the council was aware of an oil and gas well generating radioactive waste off the north-west coast of WA.
She says the admission and the subsequent delay in providing information highlights the inadequacies of the state's radioactive waste legislation.
Ms Watson says the council is failing to ensure that nuclear waste is not being dumped or brought into WA.
"What concerns me is that material might well be being dumped at sea to avoid the possibility of this being checked, or triggering this particular legal requirement, or that there's a whole lot of material being stockpiled," she said.
